I am a fiction reader.  I rarely read nonfiction voluntarily, and when I do, it is usually written by Bill Bryson.  My fiction of choice is science fiction/fantasy.  I lump them together not because everyone else does, but because I like them both so well that I cannot choose which is my favorite.  It depends on my mood, and if one of my favorite authors has a new book out.  I also like a good mystery or thriller occasionally.  I read in the evenings (I don't watch tv) and, depending on whether I have time or not, read 1-2 books per week.  In the summer, it can be more like 3 books per week.

I enjoy both popular fiction and contemporary non-fiction.
I highly recommend CHINA ROAD by Tom Gifford to understand
Chinese culture today.  I also think THE NINE: Inside the
Secret World of the Supreme Court by Jeffrey Toobin is well
written; I learned how the big cases that affect American
society really get determined.
