TES Award

Congratulations to Pickens County Middle School on receiving the
Highest Yearly School Attendance Award for the 2008-2009 school
year. Pickens County Middle School had an average daily attendance rate of 96.69 % for the 2008-2009 school year. During the August board meeting, Kirk Garner presented Dr. Chris LeMieux with the highest yearly school attendance award. Kirk Garner is a long time supporter of the attendance incentive program. The Pickens County Board of
Education would like to take this opportunity to thank Kirk Garner for his generous support.

As part of the No Child Left Behind, Schools have elected Student Attendance as part of AYP “Adequate Yearly Progress.” Student attendance is designated as a high priority for schools/school districts due to the research-based correlations between good school attendance and high student achievement, and poor school attendance and low student achievement. Consequently, in the State of Georgia, each individual school (as a whole) continues to be assessed on this indicator, with the following rubric serving as the “appropriate rates of student attendance”. Pickens County School System designation has been in the acceptable range for the past six years.

School's IN don't be OUT
A goal for the Pickens County School System is to earn the designation of “EXEMPLARY” for school attendance.

Pickens County School bus drivers spread the word “School’s IN don’t be OUT”.
Pickens County School System has expanded the “School’s IN don’t be OUT” campaign efforts to all Pickens County School buses. The campaign is geared to help eliminate truancy and improve overall student attendance. The entire fleet of buses now have magnetic signs on the back of each bus announcing “School IN don’t be OUT”.

Help us reach our goal this school year to earn the designation of “EXEMPLARY” for school attendance.
