District Family and School Partnership Plan

What is Family Engagement

Family engagement means the participation of parents and family members in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring:

  • That parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning.
  • That parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education.
  • That parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.
  • The carrying out of other activities, such as those described in Section 1116 of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

In support of strengthening student academic achievement, Pickens County School District receives Title I, Part A funds. These funds stipulate that the District must jointly develop with, agree on with, and distribute to parents and family members of  participating children a written parent and family engagement plan that contains information required by Section 1116(a)(2) of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

The plan establishes the Districts’s expectations and objectives for meaningful parent and family engagement and describes how the District will implement a number of specific parent and family engagement activities. These engagement activities are then incorporated into the District's plan submitted to the Georgia Department of Education.

Parent meetings were held at various schools throughout the spring of 2023. A district meeting was held on May 2, 2023, for stakeholder review and input. All parents of students in Title I schools were invited to attend these meetings with notification of the meetings provided on the district’s website, via Facebook, and through flyers that were posted in all Title I schools.

Parents were given the opportunity to evaluate the current year’s program, and had the opportunity to provide input into the development of the 2023-2024 Family Engagement Plan, the Comprehensive Needs Assessment, the District Improvement Plan, and the use of the 1% parent involvement funds.
